Project References / Lake Orange Intake Tower / 15 <br /> Salem Lake Dam <br /> WINSTON-SALEM, NC <br /> SERVICES Salem Lake is a 285-acre reservoir providing the second largest <br /> Alternatives Evaluation source of drinking water for the City of Winston Salem. The <br /> Concrete Intake and Water dam, built in 1919, had been raised four times: in 1921, 1931, <br /> Supply Piping 1947, and 1996. After completing a hydrology and hydraulics <br /> Contract Administration assessment, it was clear to Schnabel that the spillway had <br /> Dam Breach Inundation Map insufficient capacity to pass the design flood requirement. <br /> Dam & Embankment Design <br /> Inspection determined that this high-hazard dam exhibited <br /> structural deficiencies that threatened its safety, downstream <br /> Emergency Action Plan residents, and the city's water supply. <br /> Quality Assurance Testing <br /> Resident Project Rep Schnabel performed subsurface investigations and analyses to <br /> diagnose the original dam, and then evaluated alternatives to <br /> OWNER/CLIENT address the various deficiencies.
