Kees served as PM for s <br /> RALEIGH, NC construction phase services = _ <br /> lop <br /> Be.. <br /> JeV-W.- — <br /> jl <br /> SERVICES Lower Longview Lake dam was constructed in 1985 as part of <br /> Conceptual Design the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' "Little Blue River Project," an <br /> Preliminary Engineering initiative addressing flood control, water quality, recreation, and <br /> Evaluations fish and wildlife conservation. Twenty-four years later, Schnabel <br /> Repair Alternatives was hired by Raleigh to perform preliminary hydrologic and <br /> Rehabilitation Design hydraulic analyses and conceptual design for rehabilitation of <br /> the dam due to its insufficient spillway and the unsafe condition <br /> Construction Phase Services of the road traversing it. We were then re-engaged to perform <br /> engineering analyses and final rehabilitation design to bring the <br /> OWNER/CLIENT structures into compliance with the North Carolina Department <br /> City of Raleigh of Environment and Natural Resources dam safety regulations. <br /> Gilles Bellot, PE <br /> P: 919.996.4001 Besides inadequate spillway capacity, evidenced by overtopping <br /> E: Gilles.Bellot@raleighnc.gov during Hurricane Fran in 1999, other safety issues at the <br /> 550-foot-long, 20-foot-high earth fill dam included tree and <br /> brush overgrowth; steep slopes; no functional bottom drain; and <br /> integrated pressure pipes. <br /> Of the two design alternatives considered—spillway <br /> replacement or overtopping protection—the latter was selected. <br /> Great job, Jerry! Many thanks All dam safety and design issues were addressed and corrected. <br /> to you,the Schnabel team and The final spillway design included retaining the first flush of the <br /> City team working on this watershed for 24 hours, matching hydraulic characteristics of <br /> project. the old spillway up to a 500-year storm to mitigate changes in <br /> - Scott Bryant, Senior Project upstream and downstream flooding. To meet roadway design <br /> Engineer standards and embankment stability criteria, the dam crest <br /> was widened to 36 feet and the slope flattened to 3H:1 V. <br /> Construction was completed in February 2019. <br /> Build Better.Together. <br />
