15
Orange County, NC
Lake Orange Intake Tower Rehabilitation-Replacement
The project will be led by and performed by personnel from Schnabel's Greensboro, NC office, who will
be responsible for overall project and client management, design of the intake tower rehabilitation or
replacement, permitting support, assistance with bidding, and construction phase services. To
complement our in-house capabilities, Schnabel has partnered with local subconsultants to perform
environmental permitting (Three Oaks), and surveying (Pennoni). The subconsultants chosen for this
project provide a team of highly trained and experienced personnel that will allow us to work seamlessly
as one group. As the project progresses and the scope of the intake tower rehabilitation or replacement is
better known, should additional subconsultants be needed (such as for geotechnical drilling from a
barge), Schnabel has a network of local potential subconsultants that can be engaged to get the job
done.
Schnabel understands the concerns with the current intake tower and what is necessary to rehabilitate or
replace it with a new long-term solution that meets regulatory requirements. Schnabel will work with the
County to understand the performance needs of the intake tower so that an economical solution that
meets those needs can be developed. Good communication will result in fine tuning the way we perform
our services to your needs, thus improving the quality of deliverables that we provide to the Orange
County.
It is our understanding that the intake tower construction work will be done with an at least partially full
reservoir, Schnabel has extensive experience with developing control of water plans and the design of
temporary cofferdams to manage construction risks while keeping the benefits of a partially full reservoir.
Leveraging our team's collective experience and knowledge will allow us to provide the County with
tremendous value by better understanding the project staff, site protocols and safety standards, and
enhancing schedule deadlines while managing risk and providing long term solutions.
Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Samuel Kees, PE at
(336)274-9456 or via email at skees@schnabel-eng.com. Schnabel welcomes the opportunity to meet
with the County to discuss our qualifications, proposed approach and how we can best assist you with
this project.
Sincerely,
SCHNABEL ENGINEERING SOUTH, P.C.
Samuel Kees, PE
Associate
May 7,2024 Page 2 Schnabel Engineering South,P.C.
