ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 15, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ,y'.- E- <br />SUBJECT: Resolutian Giving Notice of Adjustment in Salary for the Sheriff <br />and Reaister of Deeds Positions <br />DEPARTMENT: Personnel <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proposed Resolution <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Elaine Holmes, Personnel Director <br />Telephone 919-245-2550 <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />PURPOSE: To provide notice of adjustment in salary for the Sheriff and Register of Deeds <br />positions. <br />BACKGROUND: As authorized by the North Carolina General Statutes 153A-92 and the <br />Orange County Personnel Ordinance, the Board of Commissioners may adjust salaries, <br />allowances and other compensation for the Sheriff and Register of Deeds positions, The Board <br />of Commissioners must give notice of intention and adjustment no later than 14 days before the <br />last date for filing notice of candidacy for the office, That date is February 28, 2006 by 12 noon. <br />Attached is a draft resolution with the proposed notice of adjustment in salary for the above <br />elected officials. Following the election and after the successful candidate takes office, the <br />Commissioners retain the right to adjust the minimum starting salary upward in accordance with <br />the related experience held by the successful candidate, <br />The proposed starting salary for the Sheriffs position is the minimum of Salary Grade 31 of the <br />Orange County Classification and Pay Plan, The current minimum of Salary Grade 31 is <br />$73,947, <br />The proposed starting salary for the Register of Deed's position is the minimum of Salary Grade <br />29 of the Orange County Classification and Pay Plan, The current minimum of Salary Grade 29 <br />is $66,992, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the attached <br />Resolution. <br />
