Studies show their interactions with family, friends, and neighbors <br /> 3 across generations enrich the lives of everyone involved. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Everyone should celebrate aging and the journey! <br /> 6 <br /> 7 Ann Bradford said she is the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board on Aging and thanked the <br /> 8 commissioners for her appointment and for all of the decisions they make to the benefit of older <br /> 9 Orange County adults. She said the theme is Powered by Connection and highlighted its <br /> 10 importance. <br /> 11 Janice Tyler said there will be a Death Expo at the Seymour Center on May 8th from noon- <br /> 12 3:00 pm and vendors will be present to provide information on end-of-life resources and supports. <br /> 13 She said there will be a Health and Wellness Fair on May 15th at the Passmore Center from 9:00 <br /> 14 am — 1:00 pm. She said they also have two shredding events coming up as well on May 29th and <br /> 15 the Passmore Center and May 30th and the Seymour Center. She encouraged the Board to attend <br /> 16 the first of the Summer Music Series this Thursday. Lastly, she said this is the one-year <br /> 17 anniversary of the Aging Well Together Radio Show and all of the radio shows have been turned <br /> 18 into podcasts and are available on the county's website. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Commissioner Hamilton read the following proclamation: <br /> 21 <br /> 22 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 23 PROCLAMATION <br /> 24 OLDER AMERICANS MONTH — MAY 2024 <br /> 25 Theme — "Powered by Connection" <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Whereas, May is Older Americans Month, a time for us to recognize and honor the 34,000+ <br /> 28 Orange County older adults and their immense influence on every facet of our daily lives; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Whereas, through their wealth of life experience and wisdom, older adults guide our younger <br /> 31 generations and carry forward abundant cultural and historical knowledge; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Whereas, our older adults improve our communities through intergenerational relationships, <br /> 34 community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Whereas, Orange County benefits when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the <br /> 37 opportunity to participate and live independently; and <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Whereas, Orange County must ensure that our older adults have the resources and support <br /> 40 needed to stay involved in their communities — reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and <br /> 41 connectedness; <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Now, Therefore, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May 2024 <br /> 44 as Older Americans Month, with this year's theme, "Powered by Connection", emphasizing the <br /> 45 profound impact of meaningful interactions and social connection on the well-being and health of <br /> 46 older adults in our community; and we call upon all residents to join us in recognizing the <br /> 47 contributions of older adults and promoting programs and activities that foster connection, <br /> 48 inclusion, and support of older adults. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 The 7th day of May, 2024. <br /> 51 <br />
