Schnabel
provided all geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic design
Geostructural Engineering services for the 160-foot-high, 4,850-foot-long primary
Geotechnical Engineering embankment dam; a 30-foot-high, 800-foot-long saddle dam;
Geotechnical Investigation outlet works (tower, conduit, and energy dissipater); and
structural overflow spillway. As part of the design geotechnical
Hydraulic Engineering investigation, explorations were performed within the reservoir
Materials Testing limits to identify potential on-site borrow sources as well as
Numerical Analysis locations of potential seepage from the reservoir. This work
Structural Engineering included geophysical surveys, test borings, and test pits for the
main dam, saddle dam, and perimeter access road dam.
OWNER/CLIENT The main dam and saddle dam also include chimney and
County of Henrico blanket drains to filter and collect seepage, which can be
Arcadis, US monitored remotely with instrumented weirs.
