Introduction of Bond Order Authorizing $300 Million General Obligation School Bonds, <br /> 13 Subject to Voter Approval (First Reading), and Scheduling of a Related Public Hearing <br /> 14 The Board reviewed statutes and policies surrounding school capital funding and discussed <br /> 15 implications for the funding associated with the proposed November 2024 bond referendum. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 BACKGROUND: At a prior meeting, BOCC Chair Jamezetta Bedford petitioned staff to prepare <br /> 18 a review of the statutory and policy roles that the Board of County Commissioners (the Board) <br /> 19 can play regarding the funding of school capital. Based on that request, staff will present <br /> 20 information on the Board's statutory powers related to school capital funding, the current practice <br /> 21 of the County, and the policies enacted by prior Boards of Commissioners. Staff will also share <br /> 22 information regarding how those powers and policies could be used to direct a project-based bond <br /> 23 funding policy. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 This presentation constitutes the first in a series on proposed school bond projects. At the May <br /> 26 21, 2024 Board Business meeting, the County and the two districts will present their respective <br /> 27 bond project plans.
