My own <br /> background attests to the importance of education in that I was 22 years old when my first <br /> husband died, my son was aged two. I had only two years of college and very little money, but I <br /> finished my undergraduate work and came to Chapel Hill as a graduate student at UNC where I <br /> finished my doctorate.
