This spring I volunteered every week in my son s
2nd grade classroom helping his classmates with reading and math (as directed by his teacher).
I have recent first-hand experience working in the school AND in the classroom and have seen
both the strengths and the needs in both.
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
I am parent to a 2nd grader and a rising kindergartner in OCS. That means that I have a vested
interest in the trajectory&quality of investment our community makes in the school system for at
least the next 13 years. Beyond that, I believe that strengthening the public education system is
vital to our future-and volunteer at my son's school (and daughter's preschool) regularly in an
effort to support the children around my children and the greater community.
Similarly, my role as Macaroni KID Publisher is mostly unpaid labor, but I enjoy sharing a
resource with local families that allows busy parents to tap into all sorts of family-friendly events
being hosted by local organizations& businesses. This enriches the lives of local children &
families AND supports local businesses, all of which strengthens the community overall.
How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints?
I live on the outskirts of the county and have a Mebane address. Mebane is often forgotten when
it comes to Orange County planning even though roughly 1/3 of it is in Orange County and it is
rapidly growing (including he number of families with children!)Among other things, I would bring
a consideration of impact beyond Chapel Hill & Hillsborough.
In general, I am an examine-it-from-all-angles kind of person (hence the career in research), so I
welcome expression of diverse viewpoints as a way to take more people s needs & perspectives
into consideration. This results in a stronger final product.
Do you have any personal or business interest(s)that could create a conflict of interest
(either real or perceived) if you are appointed to this board?
Boards/Commissions appointments:
Other Comments:
This application was current on: 5/29/2024 1:24:50 PM Date Printed: 5/29/2024
