I am currently a
Public Affairs and Outreach Manager for the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the United
States Department of Justice. In this role, I advise senior leaders on diverse methods for
increasing stakeholder participation and broadening the pool of organizations applying for federal
grants. Previously, I served as the Lead Communication and Public Engagement Specialist for
the City of Asheville. During my five years with the City, I developed and directed communication
and public engagement strategies for numerous municipal departments, including Capital
Projects, Community and Economic Development, Planning and Urban Design, Equity and
Inclusion, and Sustainability. Often, I worked directly with business and neighborhood groups to
increase the public s understanding of the City's projects.
Additionally I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Howard University and a Masters
of Public Administration from the University of Toledo and have had professional training from
the Government Alliance on Racial Equity(CARE).
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
The reason that I would like to serve on this board is because I believe it is very important to help
ensure that this bond passes to make sure that our school district remains a viable option for
families. With enrollment decreasing it is important that voters make investments in our system
to remain competitive with charters and private schools.
How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints?
