A <br />groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 5th, 2022, and the <br />project construction is beginning this August 2022 with <br />expectations to be complete in 19-months. The Town estimates it <br />will likely bid out the construction of the solar array in late 2023. <br />The building will occupy approximately 50,000 gross square feet <br />with parking, divided as follows: <br /> <br />Use Approximate Size (Square <br />Feet) <br />Town of Carrboro <br />program/office space <br />6,351 <br />Associated Town functions <br />(WCOM radio, Virtual <br />Justice Center, Teen Space, <br />Black Box Theater) <br />9,697 <br />Orange County Southern <br />Branch Library (with seed <br />library) <br />9,718 <br />Orange County Skills <br />Development Center <br />9,229 <br /> <br />In addition, there are 1,917 square feet shared between the Town of <br />Carrboro and the Orange County Skills Development Center, as <br />well as 13,637 square feet associated with circulation, building <br />services, and public toilets. The building will be designed to meet <br />the United States Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and <br />Environmental Design (USGBC LEED) Gold equivalent <br />performance, emphasizing high efficiency and low energy impact. <br /> <br />The Town is requesting funds to construct a solar photovoltaic array <br />on the building’s west roof as well as an educational display in a <br />separate area. <br /> <br />The Town will explore various interpretive and education display <br />methods to create an immersive experience including: <br /> <br />• Portable display panels that can be used throughout the <br />building and at outreach events, conferences, etc. <br />• Plaques/signage near specific green features to highlight the <br />benefits in action. <br />• QR codes to a Town webpage dedicated to continued <br />learning for the green features, LEED buildings, and the <br />Town’s CCAP. <br />• Interactive displays to explain how the green features <br />function (e.g., miniature solar photovoltaic cell and <br />stormwater bioretention cell diorama, live display of solar <br />energy generated) <br /> <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 08DD74BE-CE96-4D90-9C72-8BD18C25E2E7
