4 <br /> REQUESTED ACTION#2: <br /> In addition, the Economic Development Advisory Board has 1 new vacancy (due to the <br /> recent resignation of Vice Chair Dave Gephart), and 3 upcoming vacancies (current members <br /> John Morris, Barbara Jessie-Black, and Sharon Hill)who will be completing their second and <br /> final term on 6/30/24. Three of these members have been serving on the Economic Development <br /> Department's subcommittee that reviews and makes grant award decisions for the many small <br /> business grant applicants submitted to Orange County's Small Business Grant program. Their <br /> expertise and absence will be missed, and must be replaced quickly by our other existing, and <br /> new prospective advisory board members. <br /> The Economic Development Advisory Board's Policies and Procedures outline <br /> membership representation from various sectors including agriculture, entrepreneurship, tourism, <br /> nonprofit, University of Chapel Hill, and core business. For the 1 current vacancy and 3 <br /> upcoming vacancies that are effective 6/30/24, this will leave open seats for appointment in the <br /> entrepreneurship (1), nonprofit (1), and core business categories (2). <br /> The Economic Development's Advisory Board endorses new appointments for these 3 <br /> candidates: <br /> • Emilee Collins (Commercial broker with Pickett Sprouse Real Estate Services, & Chair <br /> of the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce) <br /> • Joy Mercer (Tax Attorney, small business owner, and member of the Orange County <br /> Equalization and Review advisory board) <br /> • Lisa Kaylie (Executive Director of Extraordinary Venture in Chapel Hill, &Acting <br /> Director of Democratic Women of Orange County) <br /> REQUESTED ACTION#3: <br /> The Advisory Board requests that a 10th vacancy remain unfilled through the summer to <br /> permit time for the recruitment of additional minority candidates. <br /> The requested appointments are intended to help accomplish the Board of Commissioners' <br /> economic and social justice goals, as follows: <br /> • Utilize the diverse range of economic development experience that all members bring to <br /> the County among a broad range of key business sectors (agriculture, hospitality, <br /> nonprofit,UNC academia, and general core business expertise), as required by the <br /> Economic Development Advisory Board's stated Guidelines. <br />
