City Limits
Gender Identity: Female
Ethnic Background: White
Age Range: 18-34
Community Activities/Organizational Memberships:
I am a volunteer foster parent for Paws for Life NC, a 501 c(3) organization out of Franklin
County, NC that pulls dogs and cats from Franklin County Humane Society, a rural and
underserved shelter. I am also a volunteer chapter advisor for Alamance Youth
Leadership Association in Burlington, NC. This organization is aimed at developing
leadership skills in youth ages 11-14 living in Alamance County. I am on the board of the
North Carolina School Counseling Association (volunteer position) and frequently
volunteer in at an inner-city daycare center serving low-income families in St. Louis,
Missouri (where I m from and go back to visit frequently).
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
None
Boards/Commissions applied for:
Animal Services Advisory Board
Please explain how your background, education and experience is relevant to this board
I am a long time animal lover and have been a vegetarian for 12 years. I have 2 rescue dogs of
my own and also volunteer with a fostering program that benefits a rural NC shelter. Animal
advocacy is important to me and I feel strongly about getting more involved to learn about other
ways I can support a cause close to my heart. I received my B.A. in Psychology from UNC-
Chapel Hill in 2016 and my Master s of Education in School Counseling 2017. 1 currently work
as a school counselor in a low-income school, a job requiring advocacy, compassion, and
teamwork on a daily basis.
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
During the COVID pandemic, I used my quarantine time to connect more with nature and my
environment. I went for daily walks in county parks and seeing baby deer, frogs, dogs, birds,
and other beautiful natural creates would always make my day. I took on fostering 3 4 week old
puppies (giving me a total of 5 dogs in my house!) and absolutely loved it, despite the hard
work. Seeing them find homes and grow up happy and healthy after their tough start to life gave
me a new appreciation for animal advocacy. I know there is more I can do to help the animals
