Orange County Affordable Housing
Advisory Board (AHAB)
GRANGE COUNTY Meeting Agenda
HOUSING DEPARTMENT Tuesday, March 14, rChapel PM
Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill
104 S Estes Dr.
Chapel Hill, NC 27514
Zoom link:
https:Horangecountync.zoom.us/j/85811873570?pwd=RWFSdjZNcmZ6QOQzamtuTllwYkNKZz09
i. Wants to work on affordable housing issues. Hopes that this area WILL become
more affordable. "Home" is your refuge, a safe and comfortable area. Looking
forward to a couple bucket-list golf trips.
h. Sykes
i. Been on board almost 6 years. Doesn't work for nonprofit, works for
corporation. Not what she studied; she studied policy around land use/social
policy. Doesn't get to do that work in her 9-5 so does it through volunteering.
Finds hope in the fact that there is actually discussion around affordable
housing. Hope is that this momentum continues. Stable housing is the
foundation. Looking forward to blooms and blossoms but not looking forward to
pollen.
i. Corey
i. Odd career that started in TV production. Learned that she really likes public
service, and learned a lot about state govt from that job. Came to OC working in
the Partnership to End Homelessness. Started this job two years ago. Loves
working in community with folks like us. Hopes that there will be enough
affordable housing. "Home" is a place where you can do what you want and
make your own rules. Looking forward to kids' activities this Spring.
j. Cormack
i. Studied theater but experienced so much racism that she decided to pursue
social justice. Ended up in England to pursue masters and worked in housing
association there. Saw what can happen when there is a more socialized way of
doing housing, which is what brought her into this job. "Place-shaping"--people
shaping their neighborhoods and loving where they live--affects health,
happiness, everything. Passionate about people being able to age in place.
