BACKGROUND: Residents of Tanya Drive (7 homes) have petitioned the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for the majority of Tanya Drive. Tanya Drive is located in Hyde-Away Forest subdivision (recorded in July 1969) off the east side of Mill Creek Road, Cheeks Township. The petition is far partial addition of Tanya Drive, from Cherry Street (SR 1444) to the northern lot boundary of the corner lot at Tanya Drive and Glenn Street (SR assignment pending), to the state maintained secondary road system. NCDOT was not able to obtain right-of-way on Tanya Drive for that corner property. NCDOT has investigated this request (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition Report) and has submitted the petition to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The Board must take an administrative action to approve the petition to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to accept Tanya Drive into the State Maintenance Program. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this decision item. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Administration recommends that the Board approve the request to add Tanya Drive to the State Secondary Road Maintenance Program.
