The meeting was held at the following time and place: Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery, 2560 Jones Ferry Road, Chapel Hill, NC on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 3pm. The persons in attendance at the meeting: See attached Attendance sheet The following issues were discussed at the meeting (Attach additional sheet(s) if needed): • We talked about the history and current operation of the Cemetery. • We described that there are no plans to change the operation of the Cemetery, and there is no expectation of an increase in the rate of annual burials. • We showed a map of the preliminary plans, described how some plots will be in the woods and some in lawn areas, where the construction equipment will enter the site, what noise to expect. • We described the SUP process and the opportunity for neighbor input at the BOA hearing. • There were 3 main concerns voiced by the two neighbors who attended the meeting: 1. Concern about embalming fluid entering the ecosystem. Response: Embalming is prohibited at the Cemetery 2. Concern about closures on Jones Ferry Road during construction. Response: We don't anticipate the need to close Jones Ferry Road, although there may be one or two short periods when Jones Ferry Road will have a flagman and only one lane of traffic. 3. Concern that we will be cutting down all the trees. Response: We are working with an arborist to protect as many trees as possible, will have many burials in wooded areas, and are leaving substantial wooded buffers on the perimeter of the project. As a result of the meeting, the following changes were made to the project proposal (Attach additional sheet(s) if needed): None, as the neighbors indicated that their concerns were being addressed as the project is currently planned.
