64
8.0 Multi-Modal Opportunities
8.1 Transit
The only transit route in the TIA study area is the Hillsborough Circulator Route, which
connects major origins and destinations throughout Hillsborough with hourly service.
The route travels along US 70 Alt. between NC 86 and Lawrence Road, then proceeds
up Lawrence Road to US 70 to head west back towards the Town. The Route runs
Monday— Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Orange County Public Transit Route information is
included in the Appendix.
Possibly this Route could traverse the development in the future adding minimal extra
time to the headways. It could ultimately bring residents to the recreational areas which
would help reduce the traffic impacts.
8.2 Pedestrian & Bike Facilities
As observed in the data collection, very little pedestrian or bicycle activity was
documented in the counts that occurred during the three peak periods. This is likely due
to the lack of pedestrian or bicycle infrastructure in this portion of the County. No
sidewalks exist on any of the study area roadways. In addition, no bike lanes exist on
these facilities as well.
The development plans to include sidewalks throughout the site that will connect the
different recreational uses allowing visitors and students to walk between portions of the
development.
