Its presence may not have been verified in the
past 20 years. An element is not automatically assigned a historical status if it has not been verified in the past 20 years; some effort must
have been made to locate or relocate occurrences.A Historical status does not impact the State Status of a species.
s One known occurrence of this species was identified within 1.0 mile of the PSA;however, none were located within the PSA itself.
Nearly every protected vascular plant species listed in Tables 3 and 5 requires a
circumneutral soil pH. The floristic composition within the natural communities on this
site suggests an acidic pH, which is typical for much of the North Carolina Piedmont
ecoregion.
4.3 Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act
The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act is enforced by the USFWS. Golden eagles do
not nest in North Carolina. Habitat for the bald eagle primarily consists of mature forests
in proximity to large bodies of open water for foraging. Large dominant trees are utilized
for nesting sites, typically within 1.0 mile of open water.
A desktop-GIS assessment of the PSA, as well as the area within a 1.0-mile radius of the
project limits, was performed on November 23, 2022, using the most recent color aerials.
Water bodies large enough or sufficiently open to be considered potential feeding sources
