Attachment 2 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 March 19, 2024 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, March 19, <br /> 9 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Sally Greene and <br /> 12 Commissioners Amy Fowler, Jean Hamilton, Earl McKee, Phyllis Portie-Ascott, and Anna <br /> 13 Richards <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present, <br /> 21 except Commissioner McKee. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 24 Chair Bedford noted that staff requested that item 8-i be removed from the agenda. She <br /> 25 asked for a motion to approve the amended agenda. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Commissioner Richards made a motion, seconded by Vice-Chair Greene, to approve the <br /> 28 amended agenda. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Chair Bedford read the public charge: <br /> 33 The Board of Commissioners pledges its respect to all present. The Board asks those <br /> 34 attending this meeting to conduct themselves in a respectful, courteous manner toward <br /> 35 each other, county staff and the commissioners. At any time should a member of the Board <br /> 36 or the public fail to observe this charge, the Chair will take steps to restore order and <br /> 37 decorum. Should it become impossible to restore order and continue the meeting, the Chair <br /> 38 will recess the meeting until such time that a genuine commitment to this public charge is <br /> 39 observed. The BOCC asks that all electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers, and <br /> 40 computers should please be turned off or set to silent/vibrate. Please be kind to everyone. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 43 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Dan Schnitzer said he was speaking in support of the Hillsborough Hogs. He thanked the <br /> 46 Board for listening to the community. He said his son participated in a tournament earlier this year <br /> 47 and felt anxious about competing, but his son was supported and encouraged by the coaches. <br /> 48 He said the Hogs' culture represents the best of Orange County. He asked the Board to find a <br /> 49 way to continue to support the Hillsborough Hogs. <br /> 50 Thomas Deis, the President and scheduler for Triangle Youth Hockey of NC, said he is <br /> 51 there to speak in support of youth hockey and the Hillsborough Hogs in Orange County.
