Board of Equalization and Review—Appointments Discussion <br /> 21 The Board discussed appointments to the Board of Equalization and Review. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 BACKGROUND: The Board of Equalization and Review is a quasi-judicial body that hears <br /> 24 appeals from residents concerning various property tax issues, including valuation and exemption <br /> 25 appeals. The Board of Equalization and Review is charged with ensuring that all taxable property <br /> 26 is appraised and assessed according to the standards required by the North Carolina General <br /> 27 Statutes. Due to the nature of its work, the Board of Equalization and Review does not make <br /> 28 recommendations for appointments. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 The Board of County Commissioners appoints three (3) members and seven (7) alternates, and <br /> 31 designates the Chair.
