US 70 Multimodal Corridor Study <br /> 2 <br /> 3 Lauran Triebert from VHB and Nishith Trivedi update the OUTBoard on how the final US 70 Multimodal Corridor Study <br /> 4 addressed all issues identified by the advisory board. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 S. Apple asked for clarification on the recommendation for widening vs future outcome of widening. VHB clarified that all <br /> 7 data, modeling and analysis, along with is regular updates, concludes that the widening will be required in the future based <br /> 8 on the growth along the corridor and regionally.The Study helps control how that widening will occur. VBH will clarify the <br /> 9 language in the final plan, indicating the widening is unavoidable.VHB showed what will happen if nothing is done and how <br /> 10 travel will be after it is done. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 J. Mayo asked about transit improvements along the corridor and its connection to the County's Short Range Transit Plan <br /> 13 Update. Nish clarified that this study will feed into the SRTP, both consultants are fully aware of the process and the <br /> 14 relationship of one study to the other.VHB also has transit planning experience.This study makes US 70 a Transit Emphasis <br /> 15 Corridor similar to the practice used in Durham County. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 S. Apple asked about environmental protection and the watershed. VHB and staff will work to improve the environmental <br /> 18 protection language to include watershed protection.S.Apple also asked about speeding and signage and VHB will improve <br /> 19 language addressing it. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Motion:Sherry Apple- Recommend BOCC approve US 70 Multimodal Corridor Study with additional recommendations: <br /> 22 • Add additional signage along corridor to improve safety <br /> 23 • Add Watershed Protection as part of Environmental protection <br /> 24 • Improve language regarding highway improvement in future years <br /> 25 Second:Amy Cole <br /> 26 Vote: 7—1 <br /> 27 <br />
