'I5RAFT
1 integrate these folks. And they're going to get a fantastic opportunity out of it, and it's just going to elevate what's
2 already a fantastic place to be. I'm going to move to Bobby for the site plan, and we can dig into the technical parts of
3 this.
4
5 Nathan Robinson: Can I ask a question?
6
7 Ryan Moffitt: Yes, absolutely.
8
9 Nathan Robinson: Just to understand the pattern. So, you have the guest cabins, and then there would be people? Is
10 it the, in my former life, there was something called The Ark when I lived up somewhere. I that something similar?
11 Have you ever heard of The Ark?
12
13 Rebecca Sorenson: We're not The Ark.
14
15 Nathan Robinson: You're not The Ark.
16
17 Rebecca Sorenson: Yeah.
18
19 Nathan Robinson: Is that something similar as far as operational?
20
21 Rebecca Sorenson: The Ark is a Medicaid-contracted agency that provides staffing to individuals who have it's called
22 the North Carolina Innovations Waiver, and they have services through that waiver that pays for supports. No, basically,
23 what we want to do is we want to provide training programs that will train both the individual with a disability but will also
24 train the individuals who want to work with people with disabilities in a way that is creative and innovative, and we're
25 working with the community college to generate an industry credential so that people who graduate from our training
26 program can achieve a higher rate of pay so they will be interested in staying and serving the person with a disability.
27 There's, the turnover rate in the direct-support workforce right now is, it's borderline catastrophic.
28
29 Nathan Robinson: So, who stays in the cabins?
30
31 Rebecca Sorenson: People who come to camp are just people who come to camp.
32
33 Nathan Robinson: Okay.
34
35 Rebecca Sorenson: And so, part of what our training program is, is we're simultaneously training individuals with
36 disabilities to provide hospitality services. In there and to work on their individual goals while they're doing that. And
37 that might be something like following multi-step directions or having reciprocal conversations or greeting people
38 independently. Whatever their personal list of goals is, they will have a staff person that will facilitate them in achieving
39 those goals while they're also learning how to provide. Hospitality skills. The direct-support service provider will be
40 learning how to be a good direct-support service provider because we'll have a BCBA, a board-certified behavioral
41 analyst, in our training center who will help them understand how to take a task and use it to teach individual goals so
42 that they can come to their job and feel like they're successful at what they're being asked to do.
43
44 Nathan Robinson: Okay.
45
46 Rebecca Sorenson: That was a mouthful but.
47
48 Nathan Robinson: So, the camp, the campers are the people receiving the training?
49
50 Rebecca Sorenson: Nope, the campers are just campers.
17
