77 <br /> US 70 Multimodal Corridor Study <br /> 4.6.3 Rail Crossing Crashes <br /> Although no active rail lines cross US 70 in the study corridor, there are five at-grade crossings in Segment A that are in <br /> close proximity to US 70 (less than 50 feet in several instances). There have been two crashes at these locations over the <br /> last 10 years: <br /> • Third Street <br /> o March 2021 — Passenger train traveling at 76 mph struck a car stopped on tracks in daylight. <br /> No injuries. <br /> • Fifth Street <br /> o December 2014— Passenger train traveling at 79 mph struck a van trapped between gates in <br /> daylight. Driver killed. <br /> 4.6.4 Critical Issues <br /> The table below overviews safety deficiencies identified during the existing conditions analysis that must be addressed to <br /> achieve the plan's goals. <br /> Problem Relevant Goal(s) <br /> Pedestrian crossings across US 70 lack adequate <br /> safety features. 4A <br /> 2 5 6, 7, 8 <br /> High traffic speeds pose a significant threat to non- <br /> automobile users.
