Tobacco Reality Unfiltered Website Linked to All OCS Middle and Higlr School Webpages <br />All high schools and middle schools within the Orange County School district posted and <br />activated a link to the tobaccorealityunfiltered.com website. <br />Alternative to Suspension (ATS) Program Approved by OCS Principals <br />OCS high school and middle school principals agreed to implement the ATS program on a trial <br />basis for the remainder of the 200.3-2004 school year and revisit the program at the end of the year.. <br />Peer Educator Recruitment <br />Fourteen peer educators were recruited from both L^ast Chapel Hill High School and Chapel Hill <br />High School to comprise the 200.3-2004 Tobacco Reality Unfiltered (TRU) (CHCCS) youth group. <br />Tebruary,2004 <br />Peer Educator TraininH <br />200.3-2004 TRU Group (OCS and CHCCS) peer educators continue (OCS) /begin (CHCCS) <br />paining in youth tobacco-use prevention curriculum. <br />Securing Summer Intern from UNC-CH School of Public Health <br />Summer intern from UNC-CH School of Public I-Iealth recruited to assist in peer educator manual <br />development and facilitation of youth tobacco-use prevention and cessation services, <br />Durham-Orange Counties Youth Empowerment Retreat <br />35 youth (25 from OC and 10 from DC) attended the retreat and were trained in Tobacco 101, <br />Media Literacy, Policy Advocacy, Smoke-Free Env., Action Planning, Communicating your Message, <br />and group identity development. Youth peer educators were successful in convincing AMF-Durham <br />Lanes bowling alley to make half of the bowling lanes smoke free (increase from 10 to 16). Received <br />regional TV News coverage on WB22 and NBC Ch. 17 <br />March, 2004 <br />Peer Educator Trainine <br />2003-2004 TRU Group (OCS and CHCCS) peer educators continue training in youth tobacco-use <br />prevention curriculum. <br />Attendance at State-wide Youth Tobacco-Use Prevention Leadership Institute <br />6 peer educators selected to attend state-wide training event and represent Orange County's TRU <br />Group. Students then led trainings with fellow TRU Group members on subjects learned during the <br />institute.. <br />School-based Outreach <br />TRU Group (OCS and CHCCS) developed a Tobacco 101 presentation to be implemented by <br />peer educators in OCS and CHCCS middle schools. Members from Cedar Ridge High School used the <br />presentation and other activities during the health fair at that school. <br />Peer L^ducators Lead March 31s' "Kick Butts Dav" Activities in OCS and CHCCS Schools <br />TRU Group peer educators led tobacco prevention education activities in Orange, Cedar Ridge, <br />East Chapel Hill, and Chapel Hill High Schools as part of the national Kick Butts Day.. Over 1,000 <br />students reached with anti-tobacco/tobacco-use prevention messages. <br />
