Management is <br /> separated from the County. <br /> Aug-2014 Organization is granted 501(c)3 tax exempt status by the IRS. <br /> Nov-2015 IRS revokes non-profit status. Cause: no IRS returns were filed for PFAP in the tax <br /> years 2012-13, 2013-14, or 2014-15). <br /> Dec-2015 Eric Hallman installed as new Executive Director. <br /> • Retains local CPA to assist in reinstating non-profit status. <br /> • Discovers that the original non-profit application incorrectly identified PFAP as a <br /> foundation. <br /> • This error meant there was no way to reinstate the original non-profit status.. <br /> Jan-2018 Given the original organizational errors and the unfavorable status with state and <br /> federal tax authorities, management decides to reorganize. Piedmont Food & <br /> Agricultural Processing Center(PFAP) is dissolved and Piedmont Food Processing <br /> Center(PFPC) is created as a North Carolina nonprofit corporation. <br /> Mar-2018 PFPC submits a new application for IRS 501(c)3 tax exempt status. <br /> Apr-2018 IRS Examiner explains it is unlikely that PFPC will be granted tax exempt status for the <br /> following reasons: <br /> • Does not serve a charitable class-the services are open to anyone <br /> • Does not serve in a depressed economic area <br /> • Does not rely on grants and donations, but is self-sustaining. <br /> Based on this conversation, PFPC withdraws its 501(c)3 application. <br /> May-2018 PFPC continues to operate as a NC non-profit. The organization files an annual <br /> corporate tax return and has no plans to request tax exempt status with the IRS. See <br /> NC Secretary of State document on non-profits. <br /> Nov-2021 With the original 2018 lease agreement expired,the Orange County Manager's office <br /> proposes that PFPC enter into a management services contract modeled after the <br /> Sportsplex. <br /> Oct-2020 BOCC approves two-year management services contract with Piedmont Food <br /> Processing Center, Inc. <br /> Oct-2023 BOCC approves a one-year management services agreement with PFPC. <br /> Revised:Jan 17,2024 <br />
