7. Please briefly describe the
proposed project and the target
population to benefit from the
program. How many people will
benefit? (100-300 words)
Binkley is requesting of the Orange County Community Climate
Action Grant $49, 036 to contract with the NC Cary-based
company Yes Solar Solutions to install an 18.86 DC Net-Metered
System consisting of 46 Solar4America panels, 1 SolarEdge 17.3K
US Inverter, and Unirac RM10 EVO Ballasted Racking. When
operational the system will generate 23,905 kWh/year. This will
roughly double the current solar panel generated electricity from
the 50 solar panels installed at Binkley in 2016 with funds raised by
the congregation.

This project will directly benefit the multiracial/multiethnic
congregation, the preschool, and day care program for low-income
families, and the many community users of the church, such as AA,
Al anon groups and others. In total approximately 500
people/week will benefit from the ‘clean energy’ generated by the
added panels.

Why does Binkley propose to add more solar panels?
• To build on the success of our original investment in solar
energy for the church and as a teaching tool for climate
justice.
• To further reduce Binkley’s carbon footprint
• To continue to educate our congregation and user groups
about the positives of solar energy for the climate.
• To inspire church members and users to take more
aggressive action on energy use reductions in their
dwellings and, in some cases installing solar panels.
• To make a ‘statement’ about caring for God’s creation –
the Earth and all its creatures.
• To make a statement about and a contribution to
advancing social justice since the poor are bearing the
major impacts of climate change.
• To reduce our energy cost

8.
