1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: April 2, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-d <br /> SUBJECT: Removal of Appointee from the Affordable Housing Advisory Board <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Attachment 1 : Orange County BOCC Clerk's Office, 919-245-2130 <br /> Advisory Board Policy <br /> PURPOSE: To remove an appointee from the Affordable Housing Advisory Board (AHAB). <br /> BACKGROUND: Kela Kexel was first appointed to serve as an AHAB member on December 5, <br /> 2022, and her current term expires September 30, 2025. Ms. Kexel did not attend any scheduled <br /> meetings during 2023 and has not responded to staff's attempts to contact her by email or <br /> telephone. <br /> The Orange County Board of County Commissioners' Advisory Board Policy requires members <br /> to attend at least 75% of scheduled meetings within a twelve-month period in order to maintain <br /> membership. <br /> The Clerk and Deputy Clerk to the Board notified Ms. Kexel by mail on March 7, 2024 of the Board <br /> of Commissioners' intent to remove her from AHAB due to noncompliance with the attendance <br /> requirement. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: ENABLE FULL CIVIC PARTICIPATION <br /> Ensure that Orange County residents are able to engage government through voting and <br /> volunteering by eliminating disparities in participation and barriers to participation. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board approve the removal of Kela <br /> Kexel as an appointee to the Affordable Housing Advisory Board. <br />
