1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: April 2, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-g <br /> SUBJECT: Contract Amendment with New River Tire Recycling, Inc. <br /> DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Contract Amendment Robert Williams, 919-918-4904 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve and authorize the County Manager to sign a contract amendment with <br /> New River Tire Recycling, Inc. for the loading, transport, and recycling/disposal of scrap tires. <br /> BACKGROUND: Following the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2017, Orange <br /> County entered into a five-year contract with New River Tire Recycling, Inc. for the recycling of <br /> scrap tires. The original contract expired on April 30, 2022, and was extended for an additional <br /> two-year term that expires on April 30, 2024. In accordance with the RFP, the contract provides <br /> for one additional three-year extension through June 30, 2027. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact will include the costs of recycling tires, contractually <br /> set not to exceed $250,000 per year, for a total of $750,000 over the three-year contract period. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice Goals associated with <br /> this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The following Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact is associated with this item: <br /> • ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND WASTE REDUCTION <br /> Initiate policies and programs that: 1) conserve energy; 2) reduce resource consumption; <br /> 3) increase the use of recycled and renewable resources; and 4) minimize waste stream <br /> impacts on the environment. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Manager to sign the contract amendment with New River Tire Recycling, Inc. extending the <br /> contract. <br />
