US 70 Multimodal Corridor Study <br /> • Establish new pedestrian crossings at 1st Street and 2nd Street, including overpass and underpass <br /> options. <br /> 4.4.5.11 2022 Mebane Fifth St. Improvement Impact Study <br /> The City of Mebane analyzed potential traffic impacts of the proposed Fifth Street and Washington Street <br /> Intersection Improvement project.Analysis includes volume development, capacity analysis, safety <br /> assessment, and multimodal evaluation results due to the planned geometrics modifications and resulting <br /> travel pattern changes at the Fifth Street and Washington Street intersection and six other adjacent <br /> intersections, including intersections with Center Street (US 70). Notable findings included new sidewalk <br /> connections at the intersection of Fifth and Jackson. <br /> 4.4.5.12 Hillsborough Comprehensive Sustainability Plan (2023) <br /> This plan guides future development and the transition to 100% clean energy, balancing environmental <br /> stewardship, resiliency, and racial justice with smart growth that will allow for a thriving economy and a great <br /> quality of life for the residents of Hillsborough. <br /> Plan elements focus on community connectivity, future land use, parks and recreation, rail station planning, <br /> corridor planning, and climate action. A major priority for the Town is multimodal connections, for which the <br /> project team has been evaluating opportunities and feasibility with safety and resiliency at top of mind.The <br /> plan elements are listed with in the 8 main chapters: Town Government & Public Services, Land Use & <br /> Development, Environment & Natural Systems, Transportation &Connectivity, Social Systems & Public Space, <br /> Housing &Affordability, Economic Systems &Tourism, and Climate & Energy. <br /> The plan's transportation and connectivity chapter outlines and unifies recommendations listed in the Town's <br /> other controlling plans, with specific future pedestrian and bike facilities. Other key recommendations include <br /> an update of the Town's UDO and Zoning Classifications, as well as an implementation plan for unifying the <br /> other controlling plans within the Town. Any recommendations made within this study are meant to enhance <br /> and compliment those included in this plan. <br /> 4.4.6 System Connectivity <br /> For pedestrian and bicycle travel, the lack of facilities and continuity in the study corridor is a major obstacle, <br /> not only for trips along US 70, but for trips across it.
