22
,just want to be perfectly clear that everybody understands that we are a task force
and that we are simply going to be malting, if we can, a recommendation to the
commissioners and ultimately the commissioners are going to betaking action on
one of these plans or some hybrid or whatever. We are a task force that is just going
to be making recommendations. There were a lot of comments about tax write-offs,
donations, and the committee as a group we've had significant conversations about
that. In Chapel Hill, for example, there is a Friends of Park and Recreation
Association which is a tax exempt organization which if there was going to be a
change we discussed as a committee that if there was a county run shelter, that would
be an appropriate model which would facilitate some of the tax advantages, et cetera,
et cetera that are associated.. So everybody's concerns, it's good to get the concerns
heard and then we will have a chance to include those in our recommendations, The
volunteer issue - it would be very helpful for me and this is to the county staff in
preparation for our next meeting - I would like to know what the county's
experience is in developing and fostering citizen volunteer support.. I assume the
library senior citizens receive a lot of volunteer support. I imagine Park &
Recreation in the county gets a lot of citizen support.. This is not like we would be
reinventing the wheel if we wanted to really focus on malting this a good place for
citizens to focus their energy and help the animals so that would be very helpful. I
walked in a little bit late but the other lcey issue that this task force has talked about
and I think that it's the bottom line ethic is how do we make recommendations which
will lead to the adoptable animals that come into whatever program it is getting
adopted and giving the most adoptable animals the longest and most reasonable
chance to find a permanent home. That's been the guiding principal. I think that
was unanimous and everyone's focus. We talked a lot about no kill and I think that
ethically we are all on the same page. There are a lot of administrative issues and
this notion of getting the adoptable animals adopted is really what's driving this task
force. Thanks for coming out. It is really helpful to hear from the citizens.
Female speaker speaking sway, from microphone .. .inaudible.
As I said in the beginning, the 23`d of March, the task Force is going to meet again
and is at least scheduled to make a recommendation to the county commissioners for
the commissioners to consider at their April 151 work session. Both of those meetings
will take place in Hillsborough. They are public meetings and so anyone is
welcomed to attend.
Last call. Maybe that is appropriate to the day. It sounds like they are having a pazty
on WCHL. Okay, well we thank you all very much for coming, and as I said before,
we appreciate the engagement by the community. It sounds like the task force does
too. We look forward to seeing you again in subsequent meetings.
