Blackwood, <br /> 919.245.2900 <br /> Jennifer Galassi, Sheriff's Attorney, <br /> 919.245.2952 <br /> PURPOSE: To adopt and authorize the Chair to sign a Resolution retiring canine Callie and <br /> transferring her to K9 Lieutenant David Funk. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Sheriff's Office acquired canine Callie in 2019. Callie was <br /> assigned to Lieutenant David Funk and has served for over four years as Funk's canine partner, <br /> detecting narcotics, tracking lost individuals and suspects, and conducting evidence searches. <br /> Due to the age of the canine (7 years old), the Sheriff's Office proposes to retire Callie from service <br /> and to transfer her to Lieutenant Funk. North Carolina General Statutes §§ 153A-176, 160A-265, <br /> 160A-266 authorize the County to dispose of any personal property belonging to it according to <br /> the procedures described in Chapter 160A, Article 12. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this canine retirement and <br /> subsequent transfer. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign a Resolution retiring canine Callie and transferring her to K9 Lieutenant David Funk. <br />
