70 <br /> PLAN AND , DO . <br /> Objective Ensure that a clear, explicit path to landscape corridor protection and <br /> funding is enabled in existing and new planning documents, with formal <br /> adoption by governing bodies to increase the likelihood of implementation <br /> and funding. <br /> Recommended strategies for new,updated, or existing plans include: <br /> • Adopt landscape conservation and landscape corridor protection as an overall planning principle, <br /> goal, or strategy in comprehensive plans. <br /> • Adopt or develop a landscape conservation or landscape connectivity plan. Actions to consider <br /> include: <br /> o Adopt this document(or a modified version of it) as a landscape connectivity plan. <br /> o Adopt and incorporate elements of this plan into existing or updated plans, such as <br /> comprehensive, open space, land use, small area, and other plans. Elements to adopt or <br /> incorporate can include: <br /> ■ Priority landscape corridor maps and GIS layers from this project. <br /> ■ Specific landscape corridor protection priorities identified in this project. <br /> ■ Specific recommendations provided in this report. <br /> o Update and expand the New Hope Corridor Open Space Master Plan to include the entire <br /> New Hope Creek-Jordan Lake watershed,in collaboration with relevant jurisdictions and <br /> conservation partners. <br /> ■ Alternative: Fund an updated progress assessment based on the original plan. <br /> ■ Prioritize connectivity between New Hope Creek-Jordan Lake and adjacent <br /> watersheds, especially the Eno River watershed, and synchronize with existing <br /> corridor or watershed plans. <br /> o Develop an Eno River Watershed Open Space Master Plan,in collaboration with relevant <br /> jurisdictions,the Eno River Association,and other conservation partners. <br /> ■ Focus on assessment and completion of the Eno River corridor and,where <br /> necessary,restoration and mitigation of pinch points. <br /> ■ Prioritize connectivity between the Eno River and adjacent watersheds, <br /> especially the New Hope Creek-Jordan Lake watershed, and synchronize with <br /> existing corridor or watershed plans. <br /> IMPLEMENT AND ADMINISTER <br /> Objective Ensure that landscape conservation and corridor protection principles and <br /> priorities are integral to planning and development. <br /> Critical steps and strategies for achieving this objective through planning departments include: <br /> For governing bodies and planning department leadership: <br /> • Direct planning staff to develop,if needed, and implement a coordinated set of plans,policies, <br /> ordinances, and procedures focused on landscape conservation and corridor protection. <br /> A Landscape Plan for Wildlife Habitat Connectivity 57 <br />
