ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 2, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 7_ G <br />ECT: Solid Waste Matters <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager/Solid Waste PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) <br />No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />10/25/05 Salid Waste Director Memo Rod Visser, 245-2308 <br />Facilities Master Plan Map Gayle Wilson, 968-2885 <br />PURPOSE: To review and discuss matters related to the County's solid waste facilities master <br />plan and landclearing and inert debris management considerations. <br />BACKGROUND: Staff are working on a number of solid waste policy matters and would <br />benefit from the Board of Commissioners' feedback, At this November 2 meeting, the two <br />topics listed below are proposed for discussion, Additional solid waste management topics <br />have been tentatively scheduled for discussion at the Board's November 9 work session. <br />Solid Waste Facilities Master Plan Review: Staff will provide a brief review of the October <br />2001 master plan approved by the BOCC and changes needed to the plan that would reflect <br />developments since that time. Future facilities that will or may be considered either at Eubanks <br />Road or at other locations in the County include, among others: <br />• The Solid Waste Management Operations Center to be relocated by December 2006 <br />• Deconstructed materials storage <br />• Possible recycled materials resale facility <br />• Solid Waste Department and Sanitation Division crew buildings <br />• Salid waste transfer station <br />• Possible facility far additional recycled materials processing <br />• landclearing and inert debris recycling <br />• Vehicle and equipment storage for Solid Waste and Sanitation <br />Pending BOCC comment on this subject , a fully developed Revised Master Plan could be <br />scheduled to be brought back for BOCC review and action within a few months, <br />Landclearing Debris Recycling Facility: The accompanying staff memo summarizes options <br />and considerations for handling large quantities of materials such as storm debris and for <br />offering residents a legal, lower cost option than now exists for disposing of landclearing debris <br />such as limbs, bn~sh and stumps and inert debris such as rock, brick, etc. <br />
