Year-to-Date Budget Summary Christopher Ward, Division Chief— <br /> Public Safety Communications, 919- <br /> 245-6139 <br /> PURPOSE: To accept a grant from the North Carolina 911 Board for the purchase of eleven (11) <br /> portable radios for the Primary Public Safety Communications Center, and to approve Budget <br /> Amendment #6-A to provide for the total reimbursable cost of the grant. <br /> BACKGROUND: In mid-2023, the NC 911 Board solicited grant applications from Primary Public <br /> Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for backup portable radios to be used within the PSAP. The <br /> 911 Board will reimburse grant recipients for the cost of one portable radio and associated <br /> accessories, training, and maintenance per Board-approved seat in the PSAP. Emergency <br /> Services applied for and was awarded a grant for eleven (11) portable radios. <br /> These radios will replace existing portable backup radios within the Public Safety Communications <br /> Center that will be unusable as of July 2025 due to their incompatibility with scheduled upgrades <br /> to the State's VIPER radio system. The VIPER system serves as the backbone for Orange <br /> County's public safety radio communications. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The NC 911 Board will reimburse the County up to $91,639.79 for the <br /> purchase of the radios as outlined in the attached Grant Agreement. <br /> Budget Amendment #6-A increases the General Fund authorization by $91,640 for the purchase <br /> and reimbursement for the cost of the radios. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br /> activity, substance abuse, and domestic violence. <br />
