He said that he has heard it described as if you turn a building upside down, everything <br /> that would fall out would be a learning tool. <br /> Chair Bedford said she was under the impression that their schools have top of the line <br /> learning tools. <br /> David Sturtz said they do. He said they scored on average, a 9 of 10 in terms of everything <br /> they would want to see in a classroom. He said the deficiencies are space and the significant <br /> undersized classrooms, especially in the elementary schools. <br /> Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked if the space issues at elementary schools is because <br /> more kids are coming in with more needs. <br /> Rob Olson said that is some of the space needs and making things accessible so that kids <br /> can get around. He said that classrooms need different spaces than other rooms. He mentioned <br /> that kindergarten rooms usually have bathrooms in them. <br /> Chair Bedford said it is not children with special needs, it is just that older schools did not <br /> have offices for learning specialists, ED teachers, occupational therapy, etc. She said they just <br /> did not exist when the schools were built.
