2136
4)The third area that has been identified is in the Tom’s Creek area of
Carrboro. This area has flooding and we are working with fixed-income
elderly and low-income minorities in this watershed to assist with developing
flood resilience. We have clipped an image from the NC Flood Risk
Information System to highlight this area of Orange County:
https://fris.nc.gov/fris/Index.aspx?FIPS=135&ST=NC&user=General%20Publi
c.

The Orange County public school teachers who are trained will be encouraged
to train additional teachers in sustainable stormwater landscaping and
engineering within their school. The program also enables them to connect with
other teachers throughout the Triangle, facilitating the much needed cross-
district communication and collaboration required to holistically tackle the
stormwater issues we all face. Currently, these are white female teachers in their
thirties, earning public school teacher’s salaries (~$50,000/year,
https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Durham-Public-Schools/salaries/Teacher/North-
Carolina#:~:text=Average), and the teach at 97%-minority and 100%-
economically disadvantaged Southern School of Energy and Sustainability
(https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/north-
carolina/districts/durham-public-schools/southern-school-of-energy-and-
sustainabi-14394) and 79%-minority and 41%-economically disadvantaged
Northern High School (https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-
schools/north-carolina/districts/durham-public-schools/northern-high-school-
14393) in Durham County. The Orange County public school teachers who are
trained in sustainable stormwater management and become certified in rain-
garden design and installation via the North Carolina Cooperative Extension will
also receive stipends to implement the program with students after school. As
these teachers will not be recruited until the funding for them is received, we do
not know their races, genders, ages, income levels, etc.
DocuSign Envelope ID: 2C2F66C4-424F-4660-AF8A-A623B6D7194E
