1636
7. Please briefly describe the
proposed project and the target
population to benefit from the
program. How many people will
benefit? (100-300 words)
The direct beneficiaries = 10 teachers + 50 of their students + 10
low-income property owners = 70 people, of which ~70% will be
minority and/or low-income (see discussion below).

Indirect beneficiaries (from reduction in air and water pollution and
associated state and federal fees) = the entire population of Orange
county = ~150,000 people

Secondary Indirect beneficiaries (from reduction in air and water
pollution and associated federal fees) = the entire state of North
Carolina = 10.7 million people
8. Please choose the best
description for the type of
project:
☐ Infrastructure/Clean Tech: New
☐ Infrastructure/Clean Tech: Repair
☐ Infrastructure/Clean Tech: Replacement
X Communication/Education
X Natural Systems Management/Restoration
☐ Circular Economy/Waste reduction
☐ Analysis/Plan
☐ Other (Please describe):
9. Please choose the primary
climate change mitigation focus
for this project (select all that
apply):
X Energy Efficiency
☐ Renewable Energy
☐ Beneficial Electrification
X Carbon Sequestration
X Other (Please describe): reduction of erosion, sedimentation and
pollution (E-coli, Nitrogen, Phosphorous) of our waterways using
best stormwater management practices that direct stormwater runoff
to vegetation that naturally filters these pollutants and reduces the
velocity of stormwater runoff (and, therefore, associated erosion and
sedimentation); this vegetative sequestration of stormwater runoff
will also reduce flooding and increasing water levels of our streams
and lakes due to global warming and increased rain fall.
10. Has your organization or have
your collaborators/partners
completed projects of this type in
the past? If so, what funds were
used?
X Yes
X Funding used (Please describe): Hundreds of thousands of dollars
were obtained and implemented by USS founder and chairman,
Michael Dupree, for the pilot program called BETC that was
implemented (and is still in existence) in Durham, County:
https://www.nacdnet.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/NACD-
2017-Denver-Durham.pdf . The GMRG program described herein is
a replica of the BETC program.
☐ No
DocuSign Envelope ID: 2C2F66C4-424F-4660-AF8A-A623B6D7194E
