5
Page 1 of 2 Casey Collins
Volunteer Application
Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions
Name: Ms Casey Collins
Name Called:
Home Address: 113 Collins Ave.
Hillsborough NC 27278
Phone: 336-212-1445
Email: caseypcollins@gmail.com
Year of OC Residence: 2016
Township of Residence: Hillsborough
Zone of Residence: Hillsborough Town Limits
Gender Identity: Female
Ethnic Background: White
Age Range: 35-59
Community Activities/Organizational Memberships:
I am a landscape designer running my small business from a studio space in downtown
Hillsborough. I am the chair of the Hillsborough Tree Board in my fourth year of service
and have contributed proposals for reforestation projects and public art projects through
the town that were met with support but unfortunately slowed considerably during Covid. I
have two young children, one of whom plays Orange County soccer. I m interested in
public spaces and the opportunities they present in their ability to connect humans to an
ecologically robust natural environment.
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
No County Boards.
Boards/Commissions applied for:
Orange County Parks and Recreation Council
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
I graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2002. 1 earned an English Cultural Studies degree
from McGill University and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of
Edinburgh. After working in the UK for several years I returned to Orange County(Hillsborough)
six years ago. I worked as a gardener at Montrose Gardens and started my own landscape
design business five years ago when my daughter was born. I work primarily on residential
projects but have consulted on several public realm projects. I am currently the chair of the
Hillsborough Tree Board in my fourth year of service. As a designer, resident and parent living in
Orange County I m interested in contributing to the development of our public spaces with a
specific focus on sustainability and examining the way humans interact with our natural
landscapes.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I am interested in learning more about the county processes and procedures and contributing to
the development of our public spaces on this scale. I feel passionately that our public spaces
should support both human activity and our ecology. I believe that Parks and Recreation boards
can serve a critical role in connecting us to our environment in a powerful and lasting way.
