34
• November 2023 — The Orange County Board of Health approved a revision to
the Orange County Rules for Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems,
2024. The bulk of the revision mirrors and adopts by reference the pending 18E
Rules from NCDHHS.
Changes in the revised Rules are a re-organization of the current code and
clarification of current language as part of an effort to simplify and streamline the
current rules. This represents technological advances, standardized terminology,
and practical knowledge. The new rules become effective January 01, 2024.
The Orange County Regulations for Wastewater Treatment and Disposal
Systems, 2015, will be rescinded.
• November 2023 - UNC ObGyn, Orange County Department of Health
Receive Funding to Reduce Inequities in Maternal Health Care and
Outcomes - A study between the UNC Chapel-Hill and Orange County Health
Department, called "Thriving Hearts: Healing-Centered, Integrated, Community
Maternity Care," has been approved for a $21-million funding award from the
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), an independent,
nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. The funding award will be used
to reduce the incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and
improve maternal outcomes across 10 North Carolina counties over the next six
years. The project will be led by Alison Stuebe, MD, professor of obstetrics and
gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine, Orange County BOH Member and
Quintana Stewart, director of Orange County's Health Department. The two will
be coordinating with local health departments, families, and community groups to
make pregnancy and birth safer.
List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually.
➢ Community Health Assessment — Conducted every 4 years; 2023
Assessment due to NC DHHS in March 2024
➢ Financial Reports and Billing Dashboards — Quarterly Review
➢ Budget — Annual Review
➢ Outside Agency Funding Request — Annual Review
➢ Alliance Annual Report — Annual Review
➢ Policy Review— Annual Review
➢ Communicable Disease Report — Annual Review
➢ Child Fatality Report — Annual Review
➢ Tobacco Prevention Program — Annual Update
➢ Health Director Annual Performance Review
➢ BOH Reappointments — Chair and Vice Chair— Annual Review
➢ Healthy Carolinians of Orange County — Annual Update
➢ BOH Meeting Schedule — Annual Review
➢ Delinquent Accounts — Annual Review
➢ Immigrant and Refugee — Annual Update
