1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: January 16, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-k <br /> SUBJECT: Contract Award to CRTS, Inc. for Design and Build of Two (2) Custom 48-Foot <br /> Tipper Trailers <br /> DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Contract with Attachment 1 Robert Williams, 919-918-4904 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a contract for the purchase of two (2) 48-foot tipper trailers with a <br /> specialized swing door for tipping to allow for the efficient transport and disposal of tires at the <br /> County's contracted tire recycling facility. <br /> BACKGROUND: Solid Waste contracts with a private business for the recycling of tires. The <br /> County hauls the tires to the facility and currently uses a walking floor trailer that is not suitable <br /> for the weight of the tires. A Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued seeking bids to design and <br /> build appropriate trailers for the hauling and tipping of tires. Three bids were received, and CRTS, <br /> Inc. was the lowest, responsive, responsible bidder. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the two trailers is $129,756 with funds coming from the <br /> Solid Waste Enterprise Fund. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice Goals associated with <br /> this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The following Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact is associated with this item: <br /> • ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND WASTE REDUCTION <br /> Initiate policies and programs that: 1) conserve energy; 2) reduce resource consumption; <br /> 3) increase the use of recycled and renewable resources; and 4) minimize waste stream <br /> impacts on the environment. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract to <br /> purchase two (2) 48-foot tipper trailers from CRTS, Inc. and authorize the County Manager to <br /> execute the contract. <br />
