8
If funded by the Orange County Opioid Advisory Committee, RSN will develop and launch a multi-
pronged approach to harm reduction by:
1. Expanding RSN's current capacity to handle a 50%increase in referrals from 2021/22-
2022/23 by onboarding additional specially trained mentors to increase the availability of
mentors in Orange County. RSN mentors provide individual and group support in addition
to community outreach, sharing their personal stories of resilience and recovery and
providing educational materials tailored to youth. RSN is currently partnering with
Boomerang to provide informal mentoring services to community youth participating in
their services, strengthening the protective support a youth is receiving.
o In addition to increasing our contract mentor pool, RSN will designate a Lead
Mentor to liaison with other youth-serving organizations, provide both formal and
informal mentoring as well as act in the capacity of Lead Facilitator for Life Skills
groups in Orange County.
o RSN anticipates needing additional mentors to support the implementation of
Orange County's Project Build Gang Intervention Program and a new initiative to
design a "warm handoff' process where RSN's mentors attending juvenile justice
court counselors and clients meeting to build rapport and facilitate referrals.
o RSN has also identified the need for additional funding to separate the Director of
Operations and Programs position into two positions, Director of Operations and
Directors of Programs, providing additional organizational capacity as our
services expand.
2. Continuing to provide Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery
Coach Academy training within the community at no cost to stakeholders. RSN Mentor
Program Manager, Lucy Battles, is a certified CCAR Trainer.
