Agency’s Purpose/Mission (no more than a few sentences): <br />EMPOWERment, Inc.'s (EI) mission is to empower individuals and communities to achieve <br />their destiny through community organizing, affordable housing, and grassroots economic <br />development. EmPOWERment’s affordable housing mission is to reduce or remove housing <br />barriers for the most vulnerable populations in Chapel Hill and give them priority in receiving <br />aid. <br /> <br />3. Please provide a brief description of your organization’s past achievements in carrying out similar <br />projects and evidence of successful record of meeting proposed budgets and timetables (no more than <br />100 words). <br /> Rental acquisitions: for the last 5 years the EI rental inventory has increased by 2-3 units <br />per year. We have consistently been on time and on budget for these acquisitions. <br />Affordable rental counseling: EI counselors collaborated with other non-profit agency and <br />municipalities to assist hundreds of families maintain housing through and after the <br />pandemic. EI’s timely response to the urgency of tenants is imperative. Our eviction <br />prevention rate is 100%. EI has seen the highest level growth in the area of counseling and <br />it continues to rise. <br /> <br /> <br />4. Living Wage: Does this agency pay permanent employees a minimum living wage? How has your organization incorporated racial equity goals into your organizational goals? <br />As an affordable housing non-profit, EI understands that the wealth and income status of <br />individuals can be directly traced to racial discrimination and bias. EI has created an <br />infrastructure to achieve racial equity goals for renters by supplying housing counseling, <br />financial literacy, and strategic partnerships that help people of color thrive, thus reducing <br />the racial wealth and literacy gap.
