Peter Sandbeck said slide #2 shows a picture of the side of the schoolhouse with the <br /> entrance. He said it was built in 1932 to replace an outdated school building and community <br /> members donated lumber milled and sewn by a local contractor to build it. He said this was a <br /> respected institution until it closed in the 1950s. He said it stands on land owned by farmer Walter <br /> and Maggie Torian. He said many of their descendants are in the area today and are dedicated <br /> to the Jones Grove Baptist Church, which acquired the school after it closed. <br /> Slide #3 <br /> f f <br /> y <br /> Peter Sandbeck said Alethia Burt (pictured in slide #3) and Ruth Torian taught grades 1- <br /> 7 during the time the school was open and were an integral part of the community. He shared a <br /> bit of background information on both teachers and highlighted the impact they had on students <br /> during this difficult period of time in the county's educational history. <br />
