Work under this section will be performed at exterior walls of the Whitted Complex (Buildings <br />A, B, and Recreation Center at specific locations identified on the drawings. These buildings <br />are accessible by the public and some interior spaces are adjacent to work include <br />medical/dental clinic spaces and may require coordination with the Owner’s representative to <br />protect the safety of the public and prevent conflict or disruption of interior operations. <br />B. A significant portion of the work will be performed at the south elevation of the Recreation <br />Center and is located directly over the main entrance to the building. The contractor will be <br />required to provide a covered walkway extending a minimum of 10’ from the building during <br />work in this area to protect entrance and exit from the building unless otherwise agreed upon in <br />advance with the Owner and Designer. <br />C. Temperature Limits, General: Repair masonry units only when air temperature is between 40 <br />and 90 deg F and is predicted to remain so for at least seven days after completion of the Work <br />unless otherwise indicated. <br />D. Cold-Weather Requirements: Comply with the following procedures for masonry repair unless <br />otherwise indicated: <br />E. When air temperature is below 40 deg F , heat mortar ingredients, masonry repair materials, and <br />existing masonry walls to produce temperatures between 40 and 120 deg F. <br />F. When mean daily air temperature is below 40 deg F , provide enclosure and heat to maintain <br />temperatures above 32 deg F within the enclosure for seven days after repair. <br />G. Hot-Weather Requirements: Protect masonry repairs when temperature and humidity conditions <br />produce excessive evaporation of water from mortar and other repair materials. Provide <br />artificial shade and wind breaks, and use cooled materials as required to minimize evaporation. <br />Do not apply mortar to substrates with temperatures of 90 deg F and above unless otherwise <br />indicated. <br />H. For manufactured repair materials, perform work within the environmental limits set by each <br />manufacturer. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.1 MASONRY MATERIALS <br />A. Manufacturer Cleaning Product: Provide a light-duty cleaner if recommended by the <br />manufacturer of the mortar/brick for use in preparation of the brick/mortar for tuckpointing or <br />repair and for cleaning following repair work. Product shall be non-acidic and shall not require <br />any pre-wash or neutralization products or steps. Product must be safe for use on occupied <br />buildings and be non-damaging to landscaping, grass, glass, painted wood, metal, glass, stone, <br />and other finishes the product may contact during cleaning.
