1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: November 14, 2023 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-c <br /> SUBJECT: Designation of the Davis Cotton Gin and Press as an Orange County Historic <br /> Landmark <br /> DEPARTMENT: Environment, Agriculture, Parks <br /> and Recreation (DEAPR) <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proposed Ordinance Designating the Peter Sandbeck, 245-2517 <br /> Davis Cotton Gin and Press as an <br /> Orange County Historic Landmark <br /> PURPOSE: To consider and adopt an ordinance to designate the Davis Cotton Gin and Press as <br /> an Orange County Historic Landmark. <br /> BACKGROUND: The adoption of the attached ordinance is the final step in the process for <br /> designating this historic property as an Orange County Historic Landmark, as outlined in the <br /> County's Historic Preservation Ordinance. The BOCC held a required joint public hearing with the <br /> Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) on October 17, 2023, to obtain public input/comment <br /> about the proposed designation. The attached ordinance has been approved by the HPC and the <br /> County Attorney's Office and is ready for consideration and adoption by the BOCC. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: Upon adoption of this ordinance, the owners will be eligible to apply for a <br /> fifty-percent (50%) property tax deferral as per State law and the County's Historic Preservation <br /> Ordinance. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the attached ordinance to designate the Davis Cotton Gin and Press as an Orange <br /> County Historic Landmark, and thank the owners for their ongoing efforts to preserve this <br /> important historic property. <br />
