1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: November 14, 2023 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: "The Nature of Orange" Photography Contest 2023 <br /> DEPARTMENT: Environment, Agriculture, Parks <br /> & Recreation (DEAPR) <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 1) Slideshow of Winning Photos Kalani Allen, 245-2518 <br /> 2) Contest Brochure David Stancil, 245-2522 <br /> PURPOSE: To recognize the winners and thank all participants along with judges of"The Nature <br /> of Orange" 2023 Photography Contest. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Commission for the Environment and Orange County Parks <br /> and Recreation Council annually co-sponsor "The Nature of Orange" Photography Contest, <br /> recently completed in April 2023. This year, the theme was Farms, Parks and Trails in Orange <br /> County. The goal of the contest was to inspire exploration, celebration and appreciation of Orange <br /> County's diverse landscapes and outdoor experiences. Photographers help document the beauty <br /> and diversity of the natural resources, and people connecting to their environment. <br /> A total of 79 photographs were submitted throughout the contest. A panel of judges selected first, <br /> second and third place winners from the Youth and Adult divisions. In addition, judges identified <br /> one Honorable Mention award per age category. This year's judges were photographers Christian <br /> Fiore and Jerry Fraser. <br /> Winners received a congratulatory certificate and a small monetary prize. Typically, the <br /> photographs are displayed throughout Orange County in locations such as at the Orange County <br /> Public Library. In addition, winning photographs are shared on the Orange County DEAPR <br /> Facebook Page and will be "streaming" around County government on visual monitors in office <br /> buildings throughout the County. <br /> The 2023 contest winners are as follows: <br /> Youth: 1St Place — Elaina Milano; 211 Place —Sihwon Moon; 3rd Place — Kylee Harvey; <br /> Honorable Mention: Kylee Harvey <br /> Adult: 1St Place — Kelly Mieszkalski; 2nd Place — Nathalie Volkheimer; 3rd Place — Diane <br /> Cashion; Honorable Mention: Joseph Brennan <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: Costs for administering the annual photo contest are included in the <br /> adopted FY 2023-24 budget. <br />
