329 <br />the letting of contract for the architect for said school. <br />A report was given to the Board by J. A. McMahon, Orange County representative <br />to a conference arranged by the Durham Chamber of Commerce to discuss hospital <br />problems in the Durham, Orange and Wake County area. Mr. McMahon reported that there <br />is to be appointed a group to future study hospital problems in this area. Mr. <br />McMahon recommended that Orange County join with this group, as its decisions are <br />going to vitally affect the hospital situation in this county. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and <br />unanimously adopted, $500.00 was designated to go the Town of Hillsboro. This money <br />is to be taken from the contingency fund. The amount of $500.00 was established on <br />the basis of $1.00 per thousand dollars worth of Count property within the Town <br />fire district. This amounts to $1.00 per thousand on $500,000.00 property value, <br />on a contract for service basis. <br />Bids were opened for the 1964'eutomobiles to be purchased for the Sheriff's <br />department. The following bids were submitted: <br />Yates Motor Company <br />Plymouth - Pursuit Bolvoder 2 automobiles 2990.00 <br /> 3 4200.00 <br />Ray Motor Company <br />Ford - Custom 300 Crusimatic 2 automobiles 2420.45 <br /> 3 t' 3280.67 <br />Ford - Custom 500 2 automobiles 2566.97 <br /> 3 , 3500.46 <br />Harries-Conners <br />Chevrolet - Police Special 2 automobiles 3932.90 <br />Bel Aire 3 " 5449.35 <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and <br />unanimously adopted, the bid was awarded to Ray Motor Company for three (3) Ford <br />Custom 500 Crusimatic automobiles at -a total purchase price of $3,280.67, plea the 3 cars <br />now being used by the Sheriff's department. <br />Ira Roach, District Probation Supervisor, restated his request for office <br />space. Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland, seconded by Commissioner Smith, and <br />unanimously adopted, the Stete was awarded the office which is now used as a <br />conference room located at the rear of the courtroom. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and <br />unanimously adopted, Commissioner Cleveland was appointed as Chairman of a committee <br />associated with the attempt to break the proverty cycle in North Carolina. This <br />committee is to launch a program in conjunction with the North Carolina Fund. Named <br />to serve with Commissioner Cleveland on the committee were the following: Don S. <br />Matheson, Jim Wight, Dr. 0. David Garvin and S. H. Hobbs. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, and <br />unanimously adopted the following persons were named as tax linters for 1964:: <br />Little River Township <br />Cedar Grove Township <br />Cheeks Township <br />Hillsboro Township <br />Eno Township <br />Bingham Township <br />Chapel Hill Township <br />The following resolution was unanimously adopted and a copy of same was <br />ordered mailed to Mrs. John F. Kennedy. <br />That the Orange County Board of Commissioners deplore the untimely death of <br />President John F. Kennedy by the bands of an assassin and expresses its sincere and, <br />profound sympathy to the Kennedy family and the many friends and associates of the <br />late President, and authorizes and directs the Chairman to write a letter to Mrs. <br />Jacquelyn Kennedy advising.her of the official action taken by this Board.
