Review and Approval of August 2023 ASAB Meeting Minutes <br /> Member Vote (Motion/21d) <br /> Sunita Driehu s Absent <br /> Lee Pickett Aye <br /> Allan Polak Aye <br /> Dawn Roberts Aye <br /> Judy Miller Absent <br /> Lucia Wellborne Aye <br /> Mike Delafield Aye <br /> Kim Rider 2nd <br /> Cathy Munnier Motion <br /> Deborah Hill Aye <br /> Lynne DuBose Aye <br /> Tracey Little Aye <br /> Public Participation Guidelines: did not need to review because no members of the public were <br /> present. <br /> General Public Comments on Items Not on Agenda (3-minute limit): none because there are <br /> no members of the public in attendance. <br /> Monthly Meeting Attendance Record (confirm completion): confirmed through approval of <br /> meeting minutes - COMPLETED. <br /> New Business: Elliot Cramer's Proposed Gift—Friends of OCAS. <br /> • Discussion of ways to used proposed new gift to OCAS: <br /> 1. Enrichment walk for dogs; could include agility course, scent course. <br /> 2. Invest in Dogs Playing for Life: a well-established program in shelters throughout <br /> the U.S.; could pay to have them come to OCAS and train everyone, this is every <br /> intellectually stimulating for the dogs, enables dogs to interact with other dogs, <br /> provides a lot of information about individual dogs,would be able to invite staff <br /> from other shelters as well. <br /> 3. Dog training in(new) home so dogs can stick to their families. <br /> 4. Wellness check vouchers for people to use for their pets. <br /> 5. Training on how to prep house for new pet and maybe training on what to expect <br /> (like when puppies hit adolescence). <br /> 6. It was noted that an enrichment walks as a permanent addition to OCAS would <br /> benefit the entire community. <br /> 7. It was suggested that maybe the NC Botanical Garden might help with a scent <br /> garden for the dogs. <br /> Dr. Pickett will follow up with Friends of OCAS with these ideas. <br /> It was noted that OCAS already has a veterinary assistance program, but it is currently <br /> inactive due to lack of funds.
