SUMMARY
EQUITY
The impacts of climate change cannot be separated from the broader social,
economic, and political systems that shape our world. Equity refers to fairness
and justice in the distribution of resources, opportunities, and benefits. Orange
County is committed to integrating an equity lens into all aspects of our
climate action efforts, from decision-making to community engagement to the
allocation of resources.
On September 2,2010,the Board of Orange County Commissioners unanimously
adopted the social justice goals outlined in the Orange County Social Justice
Goals resolution. Climate change impacts individuals differently based on their
socio-economic status, race, geographic location, and a host of other factors.
Therefore, it is with intention that all the strategies within this CAP have been
developed using the equitable lens found in the following resolution.
FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE - ESTABLISH SUSTAINABLE
THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND EQUITABLE LAND-USE
AND INEQUITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES
The fair treatment and meaningful The fair treatment and meaningful
involvement of all people regardless of involvement of people of all
race or color; religious or philosophical races, cultures, incomes and
beliefs;sex, gender or sexual orientation; educational levels with respect
national origin or ethnic background; to the development and
age; military service;disability; and enforcement of environmental
familial, residential or economic status. laws, regulations, policies, and
decisions.
