Children and families will be able to play drums create and play <br />drums, but they are encouraged to bring other instruments as well to add to <br />the jam session. <br />Community Impact Kuumba is the sixth principle of Kwanzaa means "creativity" in the Swahili <br />language. Creativity means performing acts that leave our community more <br />beautiful than we inherited it. W e plan to inspire laughter, fun, and harmony <br />by allowing families to create drums and jam out to African rhythms. <br />Artist Experience Ruben W atson is an author, educator, poet, and community event curator. <br />He has over 12 years of experience drumming. He has led multiple drum <br />classes in Michigan as a music class teacher for elementary students in <br />Lansing Public Schools. Ruben studied percussion in high school and <br />college and has led community drumming circles in North Carolina and <br />Michigan over the past eight years. <br />Teli Shabu is the leader and founder of the world-renowned African <br />Drumming group, The Magic of African Rhythm was born in Liberia, W est <br />Africa, and has traveled extensively throughout W est Africa, studying <br />percussion and kora with masters. Teli grew up in a performing and visual <br />arts family and began producing beats, writing, and performing rhymes at <br />age 12. <br />How do you plan to <br />market your project? <br />I plan to use my list of over 300 contacts in my Mail chimp account. I also <br />plan to promote the event at local places across orange county, including <br />Orange County Schools, the Orange County Sportsplex, and the Orange <br />County Library.
